About this place
Berlin Hauptbahnhof is Europe's largest cross-platform railway station and one of the most impressive pieces of contemporary architecture in the city. Opened in 2006 on the site of the former Lehrter Bahnhof, the striking glass and steel structure spans five levels of criss-crossing rail lines, connecting long-distance, regional, S-Bahn, and U-Bahn services under one vast luminous roof.
Tips
Walk across the bridge on foot to fully appreciate its striking twin towers and decorative brickwork, and pause midway for some of the best views along the Spree. The bridge looks particularly impressive from the riverbank below, so descend to the water's edge for the most photogenic angle. Combine your visit with a walk along the nearby East Side Gallery, just minutes away on the Friedrichshain side. Warschauer Strasse S-Bahn and U-Bahn station is within easy walking distance, making the bridge an effortless stop on any itinerary.
