About this place
Bodrum Castle, officially the Castle of St. Peter, is the most iconic landmark on the Bodrum peninsula, a magnificent medieval fortress built by the Knights of St. John between 1402 and 1522 on a rocky promontory dividing the town's two bays. Housing the world-renowned Museum of Underwater Archaeology within its towers and courtyards, the castle dominates the Bodrum skyline and offers breathtaking panoramic views across the Aegean and the harbour below.
Tips
Book tickets online in advance and allow at least two to three hours to explore the castle complex and its remarkable Museum of Underwater Archaeology at a comfortable pace. Each tower within the castle houses a different collection, from ancient shipwrecks and amphoras to the stunning Glass Wreck Hall, so take time to explore them all. The castle walls and towers offer some of the finest panoramic views over Bodrum Bay and the Aegean, particularly beautiful at sunset. The castle is located at the heart of Bodrum town, connected naturally to the marina, the beach promenade, and the bazaar, and is best visited in the morning before the afternoon crowds arrive.
