About this place
The East Side Gallery is a 1.3-kilometre stretch of the original Berlin Wall transformed into the world's largest open-air gallery following reunification in 1990. Over 100 artists from around the world painted murals directly onto the preserved Wall sections along the Spree river in Friedrichshain, creating a vibrant and powerful monument to freedom, hope, and the end of the Cold War.
Tips
Walk the full length of the gallery to take in all 100 murals at a leisurely pace, allowing around an hour for the complete stretch. The most photographed image is Dmitri Vrubel's iconic fraternal kiss mural, but every section rewards closer inspection. The gallery is free to visit at all times and open year-round. Combine your visit with a stroll along the Spree riverbank or a stop at the nearby Oberbaum Bridge, one of Berlin's most picturesque landmarks. The closest S-Bahn station is Ostbahnhof, with Warschauer Strasse also within easy walking distance.
