About this place
The Galata Bridge is one of Istanbul's most iconic and lively landmarks, spanning the Golden Horn between Eminönü and Karaköy. The current bridge, completed in 1994, is a double-decker structure lined with fishermen casting their lines at all hours of the day. Below the bridge deck, a row of atmospheric fish restaurants stretches the full length of the crossing, buzzing with locals and visitors alike.
Tips
Walk the full length of the bridge on foot to soak up the extraordinary panorama of minarets, domes, and waterways stretching in every direction. The bridge is particularly magical at sunrise and sunset when the Golden Horn glows with warm light. Join the rows of local fishermen lining the railings for a quintessential Istanbul experience, and descend to the lower deck for a meal at one of the fish restaurants with views over the water. The bridge connects Eminönü and its Spice Bazaar on one side with the bohemian Karaköy and Galata Tower neighbourhood on the other, making it a natural link between two fascinating parts of the city.
