About this place
Galataport is Istanbul's ambitious and beautifully executed waterfront regeneration project, transforming a historic 19th-century port district along the Bosphorus in Karaköy into a vibrant hub of culture, dining, and retail. Opened in 2021, it stretches along 1.2 kilometres of prime Bosphorus waterfront and is home to the Istanbul Modern art museum, world-class restaurants, and a busy cruise terminal.
Tips
Visit the Istanbul Modern, one of Turkey's leading contemporary art museums, which relocated to a stunning new Renzo Piano-designed building within Galataport in 2023. The waterfront promenade is perfect for a leisurely stroll with exceptional views across the Bosphorus, particularly at sunset. The complex is home to an impressive range of restaurants and cafés, making it an ideal spot for a meal with a view. Galataport is located in Karaköy within easy walking distance of the Galata Tower and the Galata Bridge, connecting it naturally to both the historic peninsula and the bohemian neighbourhoods of Beyoğlu above.
