About this place

Küçüksu Pavilion is one of Istanbul's most elegant and overlooked imperial retreats, a delicate Baroque summer residence built by Sultan Abdülmecid I between 1856 and 1857 on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus in Beykoz. Designed by architect Nikoğos Balyan, the ornately decorated two-storey pavilion served as a royal hunting lodge and picnic retreat, set amid manicured gardens stretching down to the water's edge.

Tips

Book tickets in advance and check opening hours carefully as the pavilion keeps more limited visiting hours than central Istanbul attractions. The surrounding gardens and Bosphorus waterfront are free to enjoy and make for a wonderfully peaceful escape from the city's bustle. Küçüksu is located on the Asian shore, easily reached by ferry from Eminönü or Beşiktaş followed by a short taxi ride, making the journey itself a scenic part of the experience. Combine your visit with a stroll along the Asian Bosphorus shore and a meal at one of the charming waterfront fish restaurants nearby for a truly unhurried and rewarding half-day escape.
