About this place
The Maiden's Tower, or Kız Kulesi, is one of Istanbul's most iconic and mythologised landmarks, a slender tower perched on a tiny islet in the middle of the Bosphorus between Üsküdar and Salacak on the Asian shore. With origins dating back to antiquity, the current structure was rebuilt in the 18th century and has served as a lighthouse, quarantine station, and customs post over the centuries. It reopened as a museum and restaurant in 2023 following an extensive renovation.
Tips
Book tickets online in advance as the tower has become one of Istanbul's most popular attractions since its renovation and reopening in 2023, with timed entry slots filling quickly. The short boat ride from Üsküdar or Salacak pier is part of the experience and offers some of the finest views of the Istanbul skyline in both directions along the Bosphorus. The rooftop terrace provides a breathtaking 360-degree panorama over the city, the strait, and the historic peninsula. Combine your visit with a stroll through the charming neighbourhood of Üsküdar, one of Istanbul's most authentically local and rewarding Asian shore destinations.
