About this place

The Oberbaum Bridge is one of Berlin's most beloved and photogenic landmarks, a double-decker red-brick bridge crossing the Spree between Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Built between 1894 and 1896 in a Neo-Gothic style with distinctive twin towers, it once marked the border between East and West Berlin. Today it carries both pedestrians and the U1 U-Bahn line across the river.

Tips

Walk across the bridge on foot to fully appreciate its striking twin towers and decorative brickwork, and pause midway for some of the best views along the Spree. The bridge looks particularly impressive from the riverbank below, so descend to the water's edge for the most photogenic angle. Combine your visit with a walk along the nearby East Side Gallery, just minutes away on the Friedrichshain side. Warschauer Strasse S-Bahn and U-Bahn station is within easy walking distance, making the bridge an effortless stop on any itinerary.
