About this place

The Reichstag is one of Berlin's most iconic and historically significant buildings, home to the German Bundestag since 1999. Originally built in 1894, it was famously set ablaze in 1933 and later damaged in World War II before being spectacularly renovated by British architect Norman Foster. His iconic glass cupola, added in 1999, has become one of the most recognisable symbols of modern Berlin.

Tips

Registration in advance is essential and free — book your visit on the official Bundestag website as slots fill up weeks ahead, especially in summer. The glass cupola is open to visitors and offers sweeping 360-degree views over the government quarter and the Tiergarten, with an audio guide included. Visit at sunset or in the evening for a particularly dramatic experience as the city lights up below. The Reichstag sits alongside the Spree river, within easy walking distance of the Brandenburg Gate, the Tiergarten, and the Holocaust Memorial.
