About this place
Stretching across 210 hectares in the heart of Berlin, the Tiergarten is the city's largest and most beloved park. Once a royal hunting ground, it was transformed into a landscaped public park in the 19th century by Peter Joseph Lenné. Today it offers a peaceful retreat of wooded paths, meadows, and lakes, and is home to landmarks including the Victory Column and the Soviet War Memorial.
Tips
Rent a bike to cover the park's many kilometres of paths at a comfortable pace, or simply wander on foot through its shaded woodland trails. The Victory Column at the park's centre is well worth climbing for sweeping panoramic views over Berlin. Pack a picnic and join locals relaxing on the meadows, especially on warm weekends. The park connects key landmarks including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, and Schloss Bellevue, making it a natural part of any central Berlin itinerary.
