About this place
Unter den Linden is Berlin's most celebrated boulevard, stretching 1.5 kilometres from the Brandenburg Gate to the Spree River. Lined with linden trees and flanked by embassies, palaces, museums, and monuments, it has been the ceremonial heart of the city since the 17th century. landmarks along the way include Bebelplatz, Humboldt University, the State Opera, and the Neue Wache memorial.
Tips
Unter den Linden is best explored on foot from the Brandenburg Gate eastward toward Museum Island, allowing you to take in its grand architecture and historic landmarks at a leisurely pace. The boulevard is also well served by bus line 100, one of Berlin's most scenic public transport routes. Visit in spring when the linden trees are in full bloom for the most atmospheric experience. Most sights along the way are free to admire from the outside, making it one of Berlin's best value walks.
