About this place

The Victory Column, or Siegessäule, stands 67 metres tall at the heart of the Tiergarten, crowned by a gilded statue of Victoria, the goddess of victory. Built between 1865 and 1873 to commemorate Prussian military victories, it was relocated to its current position by order of Adolf Hitler in 1939. A spiralling staircase of 285 steps leads to a viewing platform with sweeping views over Berlin.

Tips

Climb the 285 steps to the viewing platform for one of the most rewarding panoramas in Berlin, taking in the Tiergarten, the Brandenburg Gate, and the city skyline. The entrance fee is modest and well worth it. The column sits at the centre of a major road junction, so use the pedestrian underpasses to reach it safely. Combine your visit with a bike ride or walk through the Tiergarten, and look out for the striking golden statue of Victoria gleaming in the sunlight from afar.
